Frauds Currently Operating in Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Banking Association has sent out a warning to all Oklahoma Bankers regarding two separate frauds operating in Oklahoma (Friday February 18, 2010)

Debit Card Fraud: Two areas of the state are being affected by debit card fraud. One area of fraudulent activity concentrates on cards issued by banks in the central portion of Oklahoma that are being used in Northeast Oklahoma.  The second area of affects cards issued statewide with usage in Georgia, Florida, and Texas.

If you notice fraudulent activity on your account, please contact SpiritBank customer service, your nearest branch, or tblancett@spiritbank.com and we can help you with the first steps to recovery.  Be sure to provide as much information as possible regarding the card fraud.  We will be able to pass the information on to other organizations to try to prevent anyone else from becoming a victim.

Vishing: There is Vishing currently happening in the state of Oklahoma.  Vishing is phishing for personal information by voice or by phone.  (Phishing is the process of tricking someone out of their private personal information by an unknown third party.) 

The instances being reported are occurring over the telephone.  The callers are purporting to be from a bank explaining to customers that their debit or credit card has been revoked and all they have to do is call a given number to verify their account number, PIN, and any other details. 

If you have been a victim of Vishing, please contact SpiritBank customer service, your banker at the nearest branch, or  tblancett@spiritbank.com.  We will need as many of the following details as possible: What was said by the caller, the initiating caller's phone number (off caller ID, if available), the phone number you were asked to call, whether the call was to a home phone or a cell phone, and who the phone carrier is.
